All around are the gorgeous rolling hills and sleepy fields of Normandy. A fifteen minute walk will bring you to the small village of Le Mesnil Garnier with its one shop and bar where one can pick up basic provisions, have a coffee or, perhaps, something stronger! For some this might be the perfect opportunity to try speaking a little French with the friendly locals.

Should you have something more sophisticated in mind, the market-towns of Villedieu and Gavray with their large range of shops, restaurants and bars are just 5 and 3 miles away respectively. Famous for its copper industry and bell foundry, nearby Villedieu-Les-Poeles has probably the best market of anywhere in rural France and a tradition of welcoming visitors from all parts of the world. There is nothing quite so satisfying as enjoying an aperitif on a Tuesday in Villedieu and watching the other market goers as they bustle around the myriad interesting stalls and street-sellers.

La Reverie is also only 25 minutes or so from the gorgeous sandy beaches of the western coast, around 25 minutes from the historic town of Avranches with its 2nd World War associations, and the incredible Mont St Michel – a fairy-tale castle bursting from the sea! Bayeux and the Normandy Landing Beaches are approximately 90 minutes distant.

Should you be feeling energetic, wonderful walks and opportunities for cycling present themselves as soon as one exits La Reverie’s drive. Wander the garden, play a little Boules or Badminton-or just enjoy a glass or two of wine in the sunshine on the terrace whilst supper cooks on the barbeque. Later, you might like to browse the excellent selection of books - most things are possible at La Reverie!
